EnginSoft UK Key Industrial Partner to Supporting Manufacturing Research at Cranfield University

EnginSoft UK are excited to announce their support in the £10.5million EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Through-Life Engineering Services. As a leading provider in CAE and Virtual Prototyping technologies and with expertise developed in multidisciplinary design optimisation, EnginSoft UK will assist in tackling the major research challenges in through-life engineering services;

• How do we effectively minimise the effort (man-hours) and elapsed time (hours) needed to evaluate and optimise the design options for high value systems (such as aircraft engine) based on the service performance and cost?
• How do we visualise the service activities to inform the design and manufacturing in the presence and absence of past data, and considering adaptation based on the future use scenarios?

This collaboration will be encouraged by EnginSoft’s area of expertise, as well as maximising the potential of state-of-the-art technology such as modeFRONTIER; a multi-objective design optimisation tool, which has benefitted many in various industries save time and money during the design, manufacturing and distribution stages.

A study by the Engineering Employers Federation (EEF) has identified that provision of high value services alongside products is set to become an even greater priority for UK companies in the next five years. The service often includes manufacturers taking more whole life service responsibilities (e.g. maintenance, readiness and sustainment) for a high value product. However, there is limited feedback, this overlooked phase of analysis often leads to unexpected maintenance problems, support issues, lack of reliability of the system and increased cost. It is therefore required to fundamentally re-define the way these high value products are designed and manufactured.

The industrial experience offered by key partners EnginSoft UK combined with innovative research at the EPSRC Centres, will aim to advance the UK industry in delivering high value products with greater availability, predictability, and reliability at the lowest life cycle costs.
